Promised Land is a richer, creamier and more delicious milk. That’s because it comes from wholesome Jersey cows, the cream of the dairy cow crop. Our herd is treated with a lot of TLC, but never any artificial hormones.* Happy, healthy Jersey cows make milk that’s naturally higher in protein and calcium. And while they may produce less than other breeds, we’ve always believed in quality over quantity. It’s part of the tradition of purity and uncompromising care we started with back in 1987 on our small, family-owned farm. So taste the Promised Land difference, free of artificial colors and flavors, and full of the all-natural goodness you crave.
Protein & Calcium
What separates Jersey cows from the average dairy cow? It’s true they don’t produce the same quantity of milk as Holsteins, but they do provide an exceptional quality of milk higher in calcium and protein as well as milk solids that help give the milk its rich, creamy texture.
In fact, compared to an average glass of milk, a glass of Promised Land Dairy has 15-20% more protein, 15-18% more calcium and considerably higher levels of vitamin B12. Click here to learn more about Jersey cows and the milk they make.
Types Of Protein
When it comes to protein, there are two types milk lovers should be aware of – A1 and A2. A1 cows, like Holsteins, produce the majority of the milk we drink. Jerseys, on the other hand, produce A2 milk. When A2 milk is broken down in our bodies, it produces significantly less of a molecule that can affect the nervous and immune system, causing inflammation and congestion. It’s a small difference, but it explains why some people with lactose intolerance are able to drink Promised Land Dairy without feeling sick. To learn more about A1 and A2 protein, click here.
Kosher Certification
All of our products meet the rigorous kosher standards of the Orthodox Union (OU) and adhere to strict dietary rules and production standards. Higher Heat Shorter Time Pasteurization (HHST) and Ultra-Pasteurization
Promised Land milk is pasteurized using either Higher Heat Shorter Time (HHST) Pasteurization or Ultra-Pasteurization methods. Utilizing an HHST process, we pasteurize our milk at a lower temperature, for a longer time than processing using ultra-pasteurization. Using Ultra-Pasteurization, the milk is processed at an even higher temperature but for a less amount of time than under HTST. Both methods of processing provide for adequate shelf life, and continue to ensure our milk maintains its thick, rich, creamy taste. We work hard to have our milk as fresh as possible from cow to container to our customers.
Why We Are Not Organic
Promised Land milks are natural and have been gluten-free since 2006. However, since certified organic feed for our cows is not widely available through our family farms, our cows and their milk cannot be USDA certified as organic. As organic feed becomes more plentiful, we plan to work with our farmers to achieve organic certification. In the meantime, you can rest assured our farmers use the highest standards of care and humane treatment of our animals.

Why Is There Scripture On Some of Your Labels?
Since our founding in 1987, we’ve always tried to maintain a wholesome brand image and stay true to our heritage. The origin of the scripture dates back to our first days
of developing a dairy in Floresville, Texas. We discovered that the barren land was full of honeybees. We chose to put Deuteronomy 26:9—a verse that refers to a “Promised Land flowing with milk and honey”—on our bottles because our farm was, quite literally, flowing with milk and honey. And yes… that verse is where we got the Promised Land name.

What Are the Jersey Cows Fed?
Along with rich, natural grasses, our farmer’s Jersey cows are fed a mix of feeds and grains (like soy beans, beet pulp and molasses to name a few). This balance maintains the health and well-being of our cows and ensures they receive vital nutrients, proteins, vitamins and carbohydrates. These feeds may contain corn or corn by-products. However, the milk our Jerseys produce never contains artificial hormones or antibiotics. And you can be assured that the health and welfare of our herd is top priority. We love these ladies!
