Jersey Cows Make the Difference
Jersey cows, not from New Jersey, but originally from the Isle of Jersey, were brought to the United States in 1657 by early immigrants. Their average weight is about 900 pounds and each produce about 40 pounds of milk per day, or in consumer terms, about 5 gallons. Their milk is notably higher in calcium, protein, butterfat, and nonfat milk solids. Another way of saying it is, "Jersey Cows make the best milk you can rest your health and taste buds on".

We have chosen not to inject the cows that provide our milk with artificial hormones, rBGH or rBST.* We believe in doing things naturally as Mother Nature would.

Only approved medications are used on our herds. The cows are not allowed to return to the milking line until all medications have cleared their system and they are healthy and happy cows.

To insure Quality Milk in the future,
we announce the Just Jersey Co-op, the first single breed co-op.

As Promised Land Dairy continues to grow and expand distribution across the south from California to Florida and north to Maryland, the need for additional milk over what the Promised Land Dairy herd could supply became evident. We began in 2002 working with two other Texas Jersey farms to partner with us to supply our increasing milk requirements with quality milk that would meet our high specifications for All Jersey, Artificial Hormone free, and high quality milk.

As we continued to look to the future, with further expansion in 2005 and into the future, we have had the opportunity to continue dialogues with other All Jersey farmers that were interested in partnering with us. Following extensive work with the appropriate milk regulatory agencies, the Just Jersey Cooperative was developed and is the first single breed co-op in the United States. USDA approval was received in June of 2003. Due to the size of this new cooperative, we now found ourselves with a solid supply of milk for our long-term future, and in actuality an excessive amount for our current needs.

In order to retain the viability of all the Co-op members as the growth continues, we believed it was in the best interest of all concerned that we not maintain our own herd. The volume and quality we require is now available to us through four outstanding farms in Texas producing top quality milk to Promised Land’s Floresville plant specifications.

The future looks bright and the dream of continuing to expand All Jersey, All Natural, Artificial Hormone Free milk to a growing host of health oriented and taste conscious consumers is alive and well. And we continue to dedicate ourselves to sharing the best milk on the planet, that tastes somewhere between milk and milkshake.

* The Federal Government has determined there is no significant difference in the milk from rBST or rBGH treated & untreated cows. You can become informed by a search on the internet for rBST or rBGH, reading both side of the issue.
