A Tradition Of Quality In Every Bottle

Around here, we don’t just produce the best-tasting dairy products in all the land. We also produce it sustainably, preserving the purity and all natural goodness inside every bottle. That’s our promise to you and it hasn’t changed since our beginning, in 1987.

Promised Land Dairy began on a small family-owned farm in Floresville, Texas with a small herd of Jersey cows—the cream of the crop as far as dairy cows go. More

Today, even though we’ve grown, we’re still proud to carry on the same old-fashioned values and traditions that began more than 25 years ago. We continue to produce milk from pampered Jersey cows, sourced from farms with high standards of cow care and humane treatment.

We take an equal amount of care when it comes to processing and bottling. At our HACCP-and SQF-approved dairy, we produce daily and ship immediately so that once it’s on the shelf, it’s about as fresh from the cow as you can get (unless you own one, of course.)

Each of our kosher-certified white milks and flavored milks, like Midnight Chocolate and Very Berry Strawberry, have only the highest-quality, all natural ingredients for a taste you have to try to believe. In fact, many of our fans claim our flavors taste like ice cream. That’s because a lot of our flavors are actually made from our original ice cream recipes, just in liquid form!

Go ahead and try some. We promise you’ll taste our tradition of all-Jersey and all natural quality and care, in every bottle.

What Makes Jersey Cows So Special?

We get asked all the time why we’re so darn proud of our pampered Jersey cows. It’s true that they don’t produce the same quantity of milk of larger breeds (say Holstein, for example), but they do provide an exceptional quality of milk higher in calcium and protein as well as milk solids that help give the milk its rich, creamy texture. More

You can taste the difference a Jersey cow makes, too, in all our flavors, including whole milks, 2% reduced fat—and especially in our fat free milks. No other brand compares to Promised Land’s taste from Jersey cows. That’s why it’s a special breed of cow that dairy farmers covet. In fact, many retired farmers say that even though they’ve milked other breeds, they always keep at least one Jersey for their own family.

Promised Land Nutrition

All Natural Nutrition
At Promised Land Dairy, we believe milk is better when it’s all natural. But what does all natural really mean? To us, it means keeping things simple. When you buy bottle of Promised Land Dairy, you’re buying milk with no synthetics, no artificial colors, flavorings or additives and absolutely no added hormones. To get specific, Promised Land Dairy products are rBST and rbGH free. A lot of dairy farmers use these added hormones to boost milk production and keep individual cows producing milk for longer periods of time. But at Promised Land Dairy, we trust our Jersey cows to make milk the old-fashioned way. To learn more about synthetic hormones like rBST and rbGH, click here.
Protein & Calcium
What separates Jersey cows from the average dairy cow? It’s true they don’t produce the same quantity of milk as Holsteins, but they do provide an exceptional quality of milk higher in calcium and protein as well as milk solids that help give the milk its rich, creamy texture.

In fact, compared to an average glass of milk, a glass of Promised Land Dairy has 15-20% more protein, 15-18% more calcium and considerably higher levels of vitamin B12. Click here to learn more about Jersey cows and the milk they make.

Types of Protein
When it comes to protein, there are two types milk-lovers should be aware of, A1 and A2. A1 cows, like Holsteins, produce the majority of the milk we drink. Jerseys on the other hand, produce A2 milk. When A2 milk is broken down in our bodies, it produces significantly less of a molecule that can effect the nervous and immune system causing inflammation and congestion. It’s a small difference, but it explains why some people with lactose intolerance are able to drink Promised Land Dairy without feeling sick. To learn more about A1 and A2 protein, click here.
Kosher Certification
All of our products meet the rigorous kosher standards of OK Kosher and adhere to strict dietary rules and production standards. Each has been certified by a rabbi and contains zero nonkosher additives, such as meat products or derivatives. To learn more about how dairy products become certified Kosher, click here.
Ultra Pasteurization
Promised Land products are not ultra-pasteurized. While ultra-pasteurization extends shelf life, the extreme heat during the process also changes the consistency of the milk and richness of flavor, and reduces its natural vitamins and minerals. Ultra-pasteurization allows for longer distribution routes but it’s not as fresh when it hits store shelves. Instead, we pasteurize ours at lower temperatures, for shorter time than ultra-pasteurized products, to ensure our milk maintains its thick, rich, creamy taste, yet still offers a good shelf life. We work hard to have our milk as fresh as possible from cow to container to our customers. Click here to learn more about ultra-pasteurization.
How and why we use GMOs
Promised Land Dairy products are all natural and have been gluten-free since 2006. However, since certified organic feed for our cows is not widely available this far south, we cannot claim to be completely organic. Currently, a portion of our Jersey cow’s supplemental feed—which is necessary to provide the nutrients, protein, vitamins and carbohydrates a working cow needs—comes from genetically modified crops. As organic feed becomes more plentiful, we plan to work with our farmers to achieve organic certification. In the mean time, you can rest assured our farmers use the highest standards of care and humane treatment of our animals. To learn more about GMOs in the farming industry, click here.

FAQs

Why Don’t You Make Ice Cream Anymore?

While we began as an ice cream dairy, competition with national brands and high production costs forced us to discontinue production in 2004. Today, we’re focused on producing the thickest, richest, creamiest, best-tasting milk flavors we can. However, if you’re a fan of our ice cream and still want a taste, you’re in luck. Many of our milks are actually our original ice cream recipes, just in liquid form!

Can I Take A Tour Of Promised Land Dairy?

Unfortunately, we’re no longer offering tours (although our Jersey cows would have certainly loved to meet you). We’re busy expanding our facilities and growing production to make more delicious Promised Land milk just for you.

Hey, What Happened To My Favorite Flavor?

Due to low sales and/or popularity, we have discontinued some flavors, such as Vivacious Vanilla, Aztec Coffee and Bunch O’ Banana. We apologize if your favorite flavor is among them. We are, however, always working on new delicious flavors and would love your suggestions. You can submit a new flavor idea on our Facebook page.

What Happened To My Glass Bottles?

After much consideration, we’ve decided to switch to 100% recyclable, BPA-free PET bottles. It may be surprising, but these plastic bottles are actually the best way to protect the flavor and freshness of our old-fashioned milk. They help block food odors in the fridge that alter the milk taste. They also shield from UV rays, which break down our milk’s healthy vitamins and minerals. Plus, our plastic bottles are oops-proof and easier to handle for the whole family.

Why Is There Scripture On Your Label?

Since our founding in 1987, we’ve always tried to maintain a wholesome brand image and stay true to our Christian heritage. The origin of the scripture dates back to our first days of developing a dairy in Floresville, Texas. We discovered that the barren land was full of honeybees. We chose to put Deuteronomy 26:9—a verse that refers to a “Promised Land flowing with milk and honey”—on our bottles because our farm was, quite literally, flowing with milk and honey. And yes… that verse is where we got the Promised Land name.

Is Promised Land Dairy Ultra-Pasteurized? Why Not?

Ultra-pasteurization allows for longer distribution routes but it’s not as fresh when it hits store shelves. Are You Certified Organic? Why Not?

Promised Land Dairy products are all natural and have been gluten-free since 2006. However, we cannot label our products certified organic by law. It’s because a portion of our Jersey cow’s supplemental feed—which is necessary to provide the nutrients, protein, vitamins and carbohydrates a working cow needs—is not widely available in certified organic this far south. As organic feed becomes more plentiful, we plan to work with our farmers on the opportunity for organic certification. Rest assured, our farmers use the highest standards of care and humane treatment of our animals. After all, a happy, healthy cow produces the best tasting, most nutritious milk.

What Do You Feed Your Jersey Cows?

Along with rich, natural grasses, we feed them a mix of feeds and grains (like soy beans, beet pulp and molasses to name a few). This balance maintains the health and well-being of our cows and ensures they receive vital nutrients, proteins, vitamins and carbohydrates. These feeds may contain corn or corn by-products. However, the milk our Jerseys produce never contains artificial hormones or antibiotics. And you can be assured that the health and welfare of our herd is top priority. We love these ladies!
